Torchikito: A controversial and daring vision - Norteña of the month

torchikito: Una visión controversial y atrevida - Norteña del mes
This February, we're revisiting one of the campaigns that excites us the most and brings us back to our core inspiration: showcasing everything admirable about northern Mexico . Our Norteña del mes campaign is a window into the unique personalities and talents who dedicate their time and energy to projects with passion, from content creators, film directors, activists, chefs—everyone.
This is why our first edition of Norteña of the Month features one of our favorite brand ambassadors and a producer of content and videos as original as herself: @torchikito . We spoke with her to get to know her better and get a glimpse into what it's like to be a stylish Norteña.

MM: Describe your style in three words.
torchi: My style in three words would be versatile, creative and contradictory.

MM: Where were you born and raised?
torchi: I was born on the Tijuana-San Diego border and grew up most of my life in Monterrey, Nuevo León.

MM: Do you think being from the north shaped you as a different Mexican?
Torchi: I think the whole border experience and the change that followed when I moved to a big, cosmopolitan city like Monterrey shaped me as a Mexican, a different Mexican. I think my identity is a lot of those two things combined, mixed, fighting, and going hand in hand at the same time.

MM: What do you like most about where you grew up?
Torchi: From Tijuana, it would be the resistance. It's a place where people with a very strong sense of survival are born and raised. And from Monterrey, the sense of belonging, the people, the familiarity. I don't think you make friends like you do in Monterrey.

MM: Are there any northern accents or words that are your favorites or that stand out when you speak?
Torchi: I feel, and I've been told, that I don't have a very strong northern accent unless I'm angry, haha. My favorite northern words are pure profanities. I love all the variations of "chingo," "chingado," "chingón"... what else? "Chingar"... it's very versatile.

MM: Have you used a full denim look?
torchi: I really like playing cowboy, punk cowboy.

MM: What are your favorite pieces by Montserrat Messeguer?
torchi: My favorite pieces right now are this vest from the new collection (Caravana Vest) and my Jornada Baby Blue, I think I've had them for a year now and I've worn them for everything, I've been to festivals, I walk around in them, they've appeared in several of my videos, I take pictures with them whenever I can.

MM: To close, what do you think is needed to adopt the northern attitude?
torchi: All you need to be a northerner is a good pair of boots and a lot of attitude!

Look 1: "Veneno" leather shirt , white buckle bodysuit , Jornada Baby Blue + Caravana shorts and vest set .

Look 2: Tejana Quemada , Jornada bone boots + Forastera set vanilla denim & Skinny Western Snake belt .
