Maryangel García Ramos: Determined and Activist - Norteña of the Month

Maryangel García Ramos: decidida y activista - Norteña del mes
Our campaign Northerner of the month It's a window into unique personalities and talents who dedicate their time and energy to projects with a sense of passion, from content creators, film directors, activists, chefs, and everyone in between. It's a campaign that brings us back to our main inspiration: show all the admirable things that northern Mexico has .
Our March edition of Norteña of the Month features one of our favorite activists and an admirable royal woman in every way : @maryangel_grg We spoke with the activist for the rights and justice of girls and women with disabilities to learn more about her and get a glimpse into what it's like to be a northern woman.

MM: Describe your style in three words.
Maryangel: My style is a mix of 90s inspiration, I love Cher Horowitz from Clueless.

MM: Where were you born and raised?
Maryangel: I was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León, grew up for a while in Mexico City, and now I live again in Monterrey, Nuevo León.

MM: Do you think being from the north shaped you as a different Mexican?
Maryangel: I think being from the north did shape me in a very particular way. I've lived almost my entire life in Monterrey, and it did make me different, especially because strong women are born there, determined and direct women, and that's an inspiration for my women, who are also like that.

MM: What do you like most about where you grew up?
Maryangel: Being a northerner means a lot because of the people from the north who are with you.

MM: Are there any northern accents or words that are your favorites or that stand out when you speak?
Maryangel: One of my favorite words or northern slang is huerco, huerquilla, that's what I call my nieces.

MM: Have you used a full denim look?
Maryangel: I've never worn a total cowboy look. I've only been into norteño music for a few years, so that's where I experiment a little more, but I would like to wear more cowboy things.

MM: What are your favorite pieces by Montserrat Messeguer?
Maryangel: My favorite pieces are everything with fringes, boots, and also everything that has to do with lace and animal print—it's very me.

MM: To close, what do you think is needed to adopt the northern attitude?
Maryangel: To be a northerner, a good northerner, requires a lot of authenticity.
